Adventure of the Prince Biskets

I have now sacrificed my KitchenAid mixer on the altar of duty.

Yesterday I made prince biskets for 12th Night. Little medieval carroway flavored cookies with a touch of rosewater. Over 12 dozen of them. I should have known I was in trouble when I read the directions, which include words to the effect of: cut the recipe amounts in quarters, throw in a food processor and run until the blade freeze up.

My mixer has a bread hook, so I figured it was up to the challenge. It was. Sort of. The bucking of the upper portion caused the pin that allows the top to be lifted to shift out of place, entirely exiting the hole in which it rested and slightly warping the channel in the process. It wouldn't go back in.

So bloody-well-and-determined woman went and found the biggest screwdriver she owns and used it in place of the pin. It worked. Sort of. There was more bucking, but the top didn't fly off and I got through the five additional batches of biskets.

Should I ever be so foolish as to volunteer to make prince biskets again, to paraphrase Jaws, I'm going to get a bigger mixer.

And I don't even like prince biskets!
