Day Four in London

Oy. The feet have now graduated to agony.

Still, there's some partial compensation in the cause. Tramping up and down the streets of London to get to the train, then wandering about picturesque locations is a Good Thing (TM). Abusing the wheat allergy (which is also a reason for foot pain) is not, but cannot be avoided at the moment.

Today I took the train up to Kings Lynn and revisited some of the sites that Keilyn and I saw some five years ago. The weather was definitely drier this time. It is a very nice little port town with a very nice medieval history. The best part was actually finding All Saints Church, which is hidden in a square of modern flats. It has seen better days, but the anchorhold is still there and I now have outside pictures. Inside were unobtainable because the church isn't open expect for mass on the first Sunday of the month. Pooh.

I then headed south and stopped in Ely. Let me recommend it to you as a very pleasant day trip for a tour of a fine cathedral. Most of the 14th and 15th century windows and ornaments were destroyed by order of a low church Protestant bishop, but the Romanesque and Gothic architecture is still there and quite impressive. I skipped the stained glass museum, but hit the gift shop for a couple of small, but lovely custom pieces.

There was just enough time for a quick side trip to the British Museum when I got back to London. However, that proved a failure. I discovered I have hit the wall as far as big tourist experiences go. I just can't absorb too many more objects or crowds. Hopefully Salisbury will be as devoid of tourists tomorrow as most other locations have this week.

That's the real blessing of traveling in the winter; the guides actually can talk to you and you can look at stuff at your leisure.

And congratulations to Celynen and her new boy and her dear husband! I'm really happy for her.
