Bog Trotter Redux

Tension is building in the office. The World Cup starts Friday. Already our two soccer fanatics can scarely talk about anything else. I can expect at least one television being tuned to Univision for the next month.

This is in fact an improvement over the blustering golf tournament talk to which the office is usually subjected.

I've been considering how shabby my SCA wardrobe has become. I haven't made a proper piece of garb in years. My skills and knowledge have atrophied. Alarmingly. Even the simple bog dress has gone beyond my ken. I am shamed. I have tarnished my Laurel. I am mortified that I used be be something of a leader in the costuming area (a specialist in Italian Ren sleeves for several types of dresses that were theretofore rarely attempted or done badly. Good thing my Laurel was in poetry).

I have a vague thought of starting back to my Celtic roots and doing the bog trotter routine up at Pennsic this year. I'll only be there on the four day-three nights plan. Maybe. Could be fun, and definitely is easier to pack. Much will depend on the weather. Another beastly hot summer and wearing a single layer of linen as opposed to several begins to sound good.

A few baby steps in the right direction at work. The CIO just responded very favorably to something I sent out yesterday. Maybe, just maybe, I can get the editorial and tech groups communicating on this project. What am I thinking? Similar hopes have been thoroughly dashed. But maybe.

And I am totally creeped out by an article about presidential hopeful Brownback in The Washington Post today. I have no problem with people who have profound religious beliefs. I do have a problem when they are in a position to impose them on others, and clearly feel they have a mission to do so.
