Paddywhack is Going On an Adventure

My mom called last night. She was wondering if I would lend her a cat.

She knows Paddywhack and Madame Mao do not get along.

She's missed her little dog since he was put down last summer.

My brother, who occasionally stays with her for a few weeks, brought a cat along not too long ago and she enjoyed having it around.

She has decided she misses having a pet, but can't bring herself to committing to one without feeling there will be someone to take it back should things not work out.

She's asked me if I thought Paddy might be a good cat for her, and if so, could she have a trial run.

I'm torn. In spite of it being less than blissful domestically on the feline front, I love my white cat in the grey tabby suit.

If this doesn't work out, there will be problems trying to reintegrate the two rulers of the universe. Even if it does work out, Mom's time is limited and she'll have to come back eventually. I'm concerned about the psychological trauma to them.

But my mom has expressed an interest in something living, and it gives me a small hopeful spot that she hasn't totally given up on her own comfort or future.

So Saturday morning I'm going to pack up the cat and her toys. She's going on an adventure. I hope it proves a happy one.
