terrshee's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Married Name Discussion The other day some lady friends and I were discussing the issue of keeping one's maiden name after marriage. We tried to come up with reasons why to do this. Mine are: 1. Your own is so bland it gets you on the "no fly" list. 2. Your own is so exotic that no one can pronounce and/or spell it. 3. His name is higher in the alphabet. 4. He's got some great monogramed heirloom jewelry. This is not to belittle tradition; it is just that most of us women today have considerable stock in our own names, like credit history and professional reputation. The loss of name/identity is actually a big deal. There's no romance in my soul, is there? 2:20 p.m. - 2004-11-29 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- past tense - always tense - future tense |
