Getting Old

I must be getting old. Part of me is pleased that the days are getting longer and warmer, and part of me is sort of shrugging and saying it won't last, so what's the point of enjoying it? And I find myself half-shopping for things I've long since bought and put into use.

An old friend tells the story about going to visit an ancient aunt-in-law who very discretely asked her to take her to Woodward & Lothrop to buy "a new body," i.e. a girdle. When the old lady died they found a closet full of unused "bodies." I'm beginning to understand how that can happen. Although in my case the closet would be full of curtains and diamond jewelry. Which in a way is better, I suppose. ;-)

As a footnote to nostalgia, I saw "The Hitchhiker's Guide" over the weekend. It wasn't bad, but I've come to the conclusion that revisiting the jokes of one's youth is pretty pointless. After all, I already know them and even a minor amount of freshening up doesn't change the basics. And somehow the original, for all its cheesy sets and costumes, suited the material better.

I think I need some new interests in life. Or at least to take care of the old ones. I still haven't made a dent in my class notes for the upcoming University and I've only got a month, and a busy one at that. Argh! The Pressure!

Cat Update: I'm beginning to get really worried about the Mao. She absolutely won't come down from the loft. She just hides up there in her cat bed and cries from time-to-time. I'm cutting back her food a bit in an effort to encourage her to sally forth in search of sustenance, but I feel guilty as sin. The new cat is doing just fine under the circumstances.
