terrshee's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Gift of Gyrth Here's to Gyrth Oldcastle, a uniter even in death! Yesterday I attended his funeral, and realized just how far I had come in the 20 years since I first met him, and how much I can measure my progress as a person from the first days when I was utterly intimidated by him to now when I moved among his family and friends as an accepted equal. I don't think in all that time he essentially changed; he perhaps deepened those qualities which made him so admirable, but really didn't need to grow up the way I did. Gyrth made it possible for those in his sphere of influence to rise above their limitations and see their commonalities rather than enforce their differences. What an incredible gift. I wasn't one of his direct students, but I benefited just the same. And yesterday we all came together and found that while life was sad, it is also good. 9:06 a.m. - 2004-11-18 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- past tense - always tense - future tense |
