Yule Thoughts

This time of year I find myself contemplating the paradox that even as the weather gets colder, the days begin to get longer. A little extra sunlight always makes the temperature more bearable, and the Spring, if distant, still holds out comfort with warmer days.

I really don't care about Christmas per se. Its rituals have long struck me as artificial impositions. But the cycles of nature and the human ability to observe and to some extent participate in them, well, it makes me feel more at peace with the world. And maybe that's what the holiday is supposed to be about.
