The Aftermath of Math

Tired and tried, I am.

Last evening was the first night of remedial algebra class. Three and a half pretty intense hours of review, which, astonishingly, was in fact review to me and not all new.

The prof is blessedly fantastic. I know this because I got there early and he was reviewing last semester's final with some of his students, and more students showed up who had specifically selected this section because he was teaching it. And they were begging him at the start of class to apply to teach Math 107 next semester so they could continue on with him. He's really engaged in his student's success.

This would all be very comforting except my math anxiety is still gibbering in the back of my brain and only got louder as the evening progressed. I wonder if I shall have an epiphany sometime during the semester and it will fall into silence? I hope so because there's 11 more weeks to go, not to speak of two more semesters. Like Scarlett, I won't think about that now.

Then the little gray cat decided to play all night long, and that the best thing to do was to race back and forth across my bed. I love Paddywhack, but I rather long for the more staid nighttime adventures of Mao Mao, who still will not venture into the bedroom for more than a few seconds. On the plus side, I haven't heard any outright fights in the last week or so, although hissing still abounds.

Anyway, today is a travel day. I shall run a few errands this morning, grab some lunch and head on down to Dulles, one of my least favorite airports. I need to gather my class materials and pack and achieve the proper mindset. At least I'll be worn out by the time I get to the hotel, and will hopefully sleep and wake refreshed for tomorrow's academic endeavors. Somewhere in me there is an itch to teach again. I used to be good at it. Can I recapture that?
