Cats and Dog

Good news/bad news on the pet front.

This afternoon when I got home from work and flopped on the comfy chair, Madame Mao jumped up for her afternoon cat luv session. Paddywhack decided to join us. Mao gave a brief shocked look, then both extended their necks to touch noses. Mao then retreated to the balcony. But a small, non-hostile interaction! No hissing, no swatting, no fluffed tails. Whoa! Feline harmony may yet be achieved.

The Whack Cat goes to the vet tomorrow because she's got a couple of sore looking spots. Probably nothing but the heat (the A/C is not working right. Again).

Anyway, the bad news is that my mother has had her dog put down. Now, we affectionately referred to him as "PsychoDog," but in fact he was a loving and fun critter, just not very well trained beyond the basics of being housebroken.

But Mom decided that since he had considerable trouble on steps for a while now, and she didn't want to bother anyone with him while be in cancer treatment, and he was twelve, that maybe it would be the best course. I have to support her decision, but I think she is going to come to regret it when she feels better. She loved her little Guy (his name) and I think he might have brought her some comfort during her illness. Ah well. Here's to a minature schnauzer about whom I have often said, "he's a rotten dog, but we love him anyway."

BTW, Mom actually started radiation today, and has her first session of chemotherapy tomorrow. I must go up this weekend.
