TerrShee Gets the Blues

While you are thinking of things to do to help the Katrina recovery effort, take a look at your frequent flyer miles accounts. Many airlines have donation programs. I just wiped out the miles I had remaining at USAirways, and they are adding bonus miles for donating to the Red Cross.

I'm overwhelmed this morning by the Sisyphian quality of life right now. Same commute, same job, same people, same gripes. The telephone number for The Women's Center career counseling center sits on my desk, and I will call today.

Partly this is because I watched a very fine film last night called Schultze Gets the Blues. It is a glacially paced comedy about a retired German miner who plays the accordian purely out of dutifully following his muscian father. One night Schultze gets an earful of xydeco music. Something wakes up, and he quietly progresses to taking the plunge and getting himself to Louisiana to discover kindness, music and a little piece of himself. It isn't laugh out loud funny, but tender and careful. And strangely apt considering the current state of devastation there.

There isn't always time to discover your bliss and follow it, but sometimes we get lucky and wake up before it is too late.
